Emilio Vedova
Born in Venice in 1919, Emilio Vedova is considered one of the major exponents of the Italian informel painting during the 1950s and early 1960s. In 1946 he became a founding member of the "Fronte Nuove delle Arti"- a group of young italian artists united by the wish for a fundamental anti-Fascist renewal of Italian art.
As an participant of the "artists in residence" programme Vedova spent the years 1964 and 65 in Berlin. Three times, in 1955, 1959 and 1982, he participated in the Documenta Kassel; in 1960, his works were exhibited in a separated area at the 30th Biennale in Venice and awarded with the Great Prize. The Museo Correr in Venice held a comprehensive retrospective of Vedova's work in 1984, followed by another one in the Bayerische Staatsgemäldesammlungen Munich two years later. Emilio Vedova died in 2006.
