Christo and Jeanne-Claude
The married couple Christo and Jeanne-Claude, both of them born on June 13th 1935, became internationally famous for art projects such as wrapped buildings and grand-scale installations integrated in landscapes.
Bulgarian-based Christo studied at the Fine Arts Academy in Sofia between 1953 and 1956, continued his studies in Vienna (1958) and afterwards went to Paris where he met Jeanne-Claude. In 1964, the two of them relocated to New York. Together they acquired a unique position in the international art scene by carrying out their spectacular "Wrapped Art" projects. Their work includes successful installations such as "Valley Curtain" (Cplorado 1972), "Running Fence" (Californien 1976), "Surrounded Islands" (Miami 1983), "Wrapped Pont Neuf" (Paris 1985), "The Umbrellas" (USA und Japan 1991), "Over the River" (USA 1992) and "Wrapped Reichstag" (Berlin 1995). Jeanne-Claude died in 2009.
