Portfolio Federico Garcia Lorca - Graphic by Gordillo
Luis Gordillo
was born in Seville (Spain) in 1935. Being part of the Informel movement since the beginning of the 1950s, he is to be ranked among the pioneers of the new Spanish painting developing in the 1960s. His studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Seville were followed by a travel to Paris in 1958, where for the first time he saw the works of Jean Fautrier and Jean Dubbuffet. In 1959, Pop Art, Francis Bacon and psychoanalysis being crucial influ- ences to his art.
Gordillo explored new ways of artistic expression - known as the "Madrilenic Figuration" - which soon became essential to his generation of Spanish painters. He is internationally present in numerous exhibitions and was awarded the Spanish Art Price in 1996. His works can be found in collections and museums such as the Museum of Modern Art MACBA (Barcelona), the Museum of Modern Art (Seville) and the Museum of Contemporary Art (Bilbao).
