Luis María Caruncho

Painter, architect, sculptor and engraver Luis María Caruncho was born in La Coruña (Spain) in 1929 and completed studies in architecture and history of art at the Université d'Aix-en-Provence. Presently he is director of the Museum of Contemporary Art belonging to the Fenosa union, advisor for sculpture and member of many museums' and art collections' patronages in Spain and throughout the world. An author of several books treating painting and sculpture, he is the best-known exponent of abstract art in Galicia. A retrospective held by the CGAC clarified the possible interpretations of his paintings as reflections about composition or presentations of pure geometrical beauty. Caruncho's art in represented in numerous spanish and international collections as well as in more than 30 museums throughout the world.
