Antonio Girbes

was born in Valencia (Spain) in 1952. He attended the American School of Photography in Paris and travelled around the world as a photographic reporter. Girbes' photographs display floral compositions cautiously draped in front of a background painted in dark colours with every shooting session following a meticulous ritual. By the use of a special technique of lighting a mysterious and spiritual character is added to every single blossom.
Girbes' transparent yet monumental and dense arrange- ments often resemble still lifes; he achieves an effect of three-dimensionality by means of a special technique called "Velvet-Cibachrome".
His works are regularly exhibited throughout Europe and represented at most important European art fairs. Girbes lives and works in Valencia and Vienna.
