The story of the "Graphic Portfolio Federico Garcia Lorca" was born in 1997 during a leisurely walk whilst the Croatian art collector and gallery owner Toni Politeo was strolling through Madrid at wintertime. This promenade, a talk he had with the Spanish artist Caruncho, and maybe his own "derivation from literature" inspired Politeo toward his ambitious project. He wanted recognised artist from all over the world to dedicate works of homage to the Spanish poet Federico Garcia Lorca who was murdered in 1936.

During the next seven years a masterwork of graphic was created. Fifty outstanding artists from 22 different countries were involved.

A graphic portfolio was created that became exceptional in quality and quantity and the participating artist made it truly unique. Artist of different generations took part together with their work: for example Roberto Matta from Chile who lived not only at the same time as Lorca but who was also a friend of him.

Like Roberto Matta, who died in 2002, many of the participating artists are now only alive through their art: In 1999 Jean Messagier and in 2005 the artists Arman, Jesus Rafael Soto, Edo Murtic and Aldo Mondino died. The print folder has already become an important document of art history. It displays the wide variety of coeval art at the dawn of the new millennium and it shows us the wonderful variety of different techniques of printing brought to their highest perfection.
