SANDS OF TIME

"Das Rad der Zeit mag rollen, wir greifen kaum hinein..." (Henckell)
'One is ever conscious of the transience of all things, and of nature's smiling indifference, also that art is but imitation of nature.
It is not possible for me to put into words the makings of my inspiration and creativity, but I can say that my work has been influenced by the Impressionists of Europe and by the Abstract Expressionists of America. They eliminate the boundaries of convention and allow the creative spirit to run free. My work with palette knife is like sculpting on canvas with all the means of expression and form it offers.
The abstract works are meditative while the landscapes are born of impression, memories and fantasy, those endless paths through life that are the heart of my creative self.
Art is long and time is fleeting, but to quote Shakespeare: 'One touch of nature makes the whole world kin''.

About the artist
David Snider was born in Boston, Massachusetts in 1950 and grew up in New England and Florida. In the 1970s he set off to see the world: months in Lebanon, more months in Israel, with a friend overland through Turkey, Iran, Afghanistan, and Pakistan to India, Nepal and Ceylon. And back again.
He studied English and American Literature at the University of Massachusetts, the University of Leeds/UK and at the Albert-Ludwig-Universität in Freiburg i.B., and took a Bachelor of Arts Degree (cum laude) from the Univ. of Massachusetts in 1984.
In 1986 he moved to West Berlin and there he began to paint. Subsequently, he took a BA (Hons) Degree from the Winchester School of Art/UK in 1998, since which time he has actively engaged his passion for painting.
